CURLING: Fenson rink goes 1-1 at U.S. Youth Olympic Team Trials

BLAINE -- The rink featuring Bemidji's Riley Fenson went 1-1 after day two of competition Friday night at the 2016 U.S. Youth Olympic Team Trials for Curling at the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine.

The Fenson rink, which also features Graem Fenson of Bemidji, Christine McMakin of North Potomac, Md., and Allison Howell of Tom’s River, N.J., lost to the Luc Violette of Seattle 6-1 before beating Jonathan Harstad of Duluth 10-7 in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Violette squad kept the Fenson rink (2-1) off the scoreboard through five ends as they stole points to build a 4-0 lead. Violette’s team sealed the win by scoring a second deuce in the seventh end.
In the second draw, the Fenson team fell behind early in the first end, but scored three in the second end to take the lead. Harstad tied it at 3-3 in the fourth end and the teams went back-and-forth until the ninth end, when Fenson scored three points to claim the victory.
The Fenson rink returns to the ice today when they’ll take on the Chase Sinnett rink of Medfield, Mass., and the Eli Clawson rink of Clarksville, Md.
