FARIBAULT – The Bemidji State women’s golf team opened its season on Monday and Tuesday at the Maverick Invitational in Faribault, finishing fourth of five teams.
The Beavers were paced by Mollie Albrecht, who finished fifth among 28 golfers competing in the event. Her two-day total of 164 (85-79) was two strokes away from second place, and her second-round 79 tied a career low.
Other scorers for Bemidji State were Maddy Sawyer (91-93=184), Vaida Behnke (93-94=187), Savannah Byfuglien (97-94=191) and Katie Leblanc (100-93=193).
As a team, BSU finished with a score of 725 (366-359), 29 strokes back of third-place Jamestown and two ahead of fifth-place Minot State.
Minnesota State won the team competition with a score of 661, and MSU’s Anna Cihak claimed the individual crown with a 154 (79-75).

Bemidji State will return to the tees for the Tracy Lane Memorial Golf Tournament on Sept. 12-13 at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.
