MINOT, N.D. -- The Bemidji State softball team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend, splitting doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at the Minot State Bubble Invite in Minot, N.D.
On Saturday, the Beavers defeated Minnesota Crookston 11-5 before falling 4-1 to Minot State. On Sunday, BSU topped Montana State Billings 4-3 and then lost a 5-0 rematch against Minot State.
The bats were most alive in the first game of the weekend. Bemidji State (3-6) wasted no time against UMC, jumping ahead with Elaina Christiansen’s two-run home run two batters into the game. BSU ultimately went ahead 4-0 after one, and they stretched it to 8-0 in the fifth when Aimee Christenson doubled in Emmarie Yeager and Kora Martin.
Stella Dolan had plenty of breathing room with which to operate inside the circle. She spun a complete game, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four.
Molly Houts produced the most important hit of Sunday’s game against Montana State Billings, knocking a fifth-inning RBI single that proved to be the game-winning hit.
