DULUTH -- The Bemidji State men’s basketball team pulled out a close one on Saturday.
Facing Southern Arkansas during the American Family Insurance Classic in Duluth, the Beavers were locked in a tight battle with the Muleriders down the stretch. Trailing 79-78 with eight seconds left, BSU’s John Sutherland elevated for a lead-changing alley-oop dunk off Mohamed Kone’s lob.
Then, after a missed Southern Arkansas 3-point attempt, Brayden Williams salted away an 82-79 victory for the Beavers with two clutch free throws in the final seconds.
Bemidji State (2-0) trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half, but found its way back within two by halftime. The Beavers outscored SAU (0-2) by five points in the final frame to clinch the win, aided by their 17-point advantage at the free throw line.
Dalton Albrecht and Brandon Christlieb shared top billing for BSU with 15 points each, while Sutherland contributed 11 and Jayce Lowman 10.

Bemidji State returns to action for a nonconference game against Concordia-St. Paul at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in St. Paul.
