BEMIDJI – Two new faces will man the sidelines this fall for Bemidji State football.
BSU head coach Brent Bolte announced the hiring of interior defensive line coach Darius Carey and defensive ends coach Nathan Nelson to the Beaver football coaching staff on Tuesday.
Carey previously served on Bolte’s staff at Bemidji State from 2019-21 before joining Abilene Christian in 2021 as a graduate assistant focused on the defensive line. A native of Florissant, Mo., Carey helped coach the Wildcats to 10 fumble recoveries, the best mark in the Western Athletic Conference.
He previously was a grad assistant at Quincy University, his alma mater, from 2017-18.
Nelson commenced his coaching career at Iowa, serving as a defensive assistant focusing on the defensive line in 2021. A native of Waukee, Iowa, Nelson played for the Hawkeyes from 2018-20 as a defensive lineman. His brother, Anthony, plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his father, Jeff, played defensive line at Iowa from 1988-92.
