WAYNE, Neb. -- The Bemidji State baseball team dropped a decisive game three of its series to Wayne State on Sunday in Wayne, Neb., allowing the Wildcats to sneak out with a 2-1 series win thanks to the 7-1 victory.
The Beavers’ (4-21, 1-10 NSIC) lone spark of offense came when Gabriel Davis singled down the left-field line, scoring Carter Simon in the sixth inning. That cut BSU’s deficit to 3-1, but Bemidji State went hitless in its 11 other at-bats with runners in scoring position for the game.
Wayne State piled on three runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to walk away with the victory.
Will Lavin took the loss on the mound, going six innings and surrendering three runs off four hits and six walks while striking out six. The Beavers out-hit the Wildcats 10-6 for the afternoon, which included a 3-for-5 day for Sam Kalberer.
BSU will again be the designated home team when it travels to Fayette, Iowa, to play Upper Iowa in a doubleheader, starting at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5.
