Buckanaga, Drewes lead Bemidji HS cross country at Greenwood

The Bemidji High boys cross country team scored a major upset Friday, upsetting defending champion Brainerd to win the title at the BSU Greenwood Run.

Bunching its runners in the middle of the top ten, Bemidji won with 31 points to 36 for the Warriors.

Bagley-Fosston was third at 67 in the small field.

Brainerd retained its girls title in a dual meet.

Jimmy Dean of Brainerd took the boys individual title, touring the 5k Greenwood Golf Club course in 16:41.58. Teammate Chris Knutson was second with Bagley's Luke Conger third,


John Buckanaga led the Jacks in fourth with Andy Berube fifth, Alex Schoneberger sixth and Dan Clemenson seventh.

Dylan Jones completed the scoring in ninth.

The kickers were Jake Urban 11 and Dev in Danielson15.

Others were Justin Byers and Corey Huber 16-17 and Jake Fisher, Bryce Blankenfeld and Scott Hulsebus 20-21-22.

Wes Davies of Bagley was tenth.

Bailey Drewes of Bemidji won the girls title with a time of 16:02.42 over the 4k route.

Courtney Wing of Brainerd was five seconds behind.

For Bemidji Kim Truedson was fourth, Amber Solheim eighth, Alex Lyren 12 and Hana Felix 13 to complete the scoring.


Betsy Richards was 15.Bemidji also won the boys JV race with 27 points to 28 for Brainerd with Trek North third at131.

Tanner Asper of Bemidji won in 10:13.05 over Ryan Erickson.

Brainerd went 3-4-5-6 but Bemidji won with a 7-8-9 finish from Josh Kane, Trent Buckanaga and Eric Johannsen.

The kickers were Pete Humeniuk and Hayden Byers 13-14.

Others were Alex Cole 15, Eli Rassler and Keegan Hilmer 17-18., Dan Kilday 20 and Zach Rickers 22.

For Trek North, Devian Liesener was 23, Ivan Smith and Josh LaRue 25-26 and Mitchell Johnson and Anirudh Bharadawaj 28-29.

Brainerd took the girls JV title with 20 points to 41 for Bemidji.

Jenna Truedson of Bemidji won in 14:03.17.


For Trek North, Madeline Hawkins was fourth, Sarah Schomburg 14 and Amelia Schockley 21

Bemidji also took the boys Junior High race with 16 points for its freshman team and 70 for its Middle School unit.

Brainerd and Bagley-Fosston trailed.

Matt Glen of Bemidji won in 13:32.78 over a 3200 meter route.
