BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School boys swimming and diving team fell 101-65 in a dual meet against Brainerd on Thursday evening at the BHS swimming pool, its first competition of the season.
The Lumberjacks won four events in the meet, including three swimming events and the diving competition.
Sam Hendricks swam to a 59.18-second finish in the 100-yard backstroke to win the event. The junior also took second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:16.81.
Luke Yartz beat the next fastest swimmer by more than seven seconds to win the 100-yard breaststroke.
Yartz and Goodwin were each members of the 400-yard free relay team, along with Al Goodwin and Gabe Goodwin, that finished first in the event. The group of Lumberjacks won by nearly a minute, recording a time of 3:46.86.

Haakan Thorsgard claimed the top spot in diving, recording a score of 214.30 to finish ahead of teammate Cameron Munter 203.20.
Other notable finishes for Bemidji include Gabe Goodwin taking second place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.42 and third in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.71 seconds, Brock Michalicek finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:17.08, and Yartz’s third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.92 seconds.
The Lumberjacks will return to the BHS pool for another home dual meet on Tuesday, Dec. 12, against Thief River Falls at 5:15 p.m.
