DULUTH -- The bid for an undefeated season came to a close for the Bemidji High School boys soccer team Thursday evening, as the Lumberjacks fell to a 5-1 record on the season with a 4-2 loss to Duluth East.
The Greyhounds were on the board in just 16 seconds with a penalty kick goal from Seth Hoffman, and they never relinquished the lead.
In the 18th minute, Jacob Bentley doubled the lead to 2-0, where it stayed until the half.
East then doubled its lead again in the second half, when Hoffman buried his second, this one off a free kick in the 43rd minute, and Will Francis scored on a rebound in the 54th.
Two minutes later, the Lumberjacks finally answered when Ethan Mock earned a penalty kick and trickled a shot in off the hands of Duluth East keeper Oliver Hasler.

Then, after Bailey Frantz was booked with his second yellow card to give the Jacks an 11-on-10 advantage on the pitch, Aspen Galdamez hit Ben Hess on a set piece for a header into the net
Two goals were all Bemidji could muster, though, and the Greyhounds took the 4-2 win.
Starting with a call in the opening seconds of the game, nine yellow cards were given out in the contest, six to Duluth East and three to the Lumberjacks.
Bemidji is off for a week before heading back on the road for a 7 p.m. game Thursday, Sept. 13, against Moorhead.
