DULUTH -- The Bemidji High School Boys hockey team was up bright and early for an 8:30 puck drop Friday morning for their final game of the Hilltopper Holiday Classic in Duluth, and the Lumberjacks finished the tournament on a good note with a 7-1 win over Roseville.
Leading the Jacks (5-7) was senior captain Ryan Pogue with two goals and an assist, while Hunter Olson added a goal and three assists. Nick Mannausau chipped in two goals, and Joe Leitner and Josh Baker each chipped in two assists.
Six minutes into the second period, the Jacks had built a 5-0 lead with goals from Olson, Pogue, Mannausau (2) and Andrew Dondelinger.
The Raiders (0-10) finally answered at the 12:50 mark of the middle period when Mario Maietta scored a powerplay goal, but Pogue scored his second of the game to reclaim the five-goal lead.
Tanner Hammit’s third-period tally put the game in running time for the final 11 minutes, and the Lumberjacks won it, 7-1.
