GRAND RAPIDS - Two last-minute goals in the third period ultimately led to a tie Tuesday night between the Bemidji boys hockey team and Grand Rapids at the IRA Civic Center.
The Thunderhawks (0-0-1) were finally able to get one past Bemidji goalie Matt Fitzgerald with 50 seconds left in regulation, but the Jacks (1-0-1) attacked right back and Jack Johnson capitalized with nine seconds left.
“I called a timeout and we just kind of regrouped and said, ‘Hey, let’s make it happen,’” Bemidji coach Wade Chiodo said.
Chase Hartje funnelled the puck toward the net in the closing seconds, before it found Jack Johnson, who put it in the back of the net to tie the game.
After a scoreless overtime, the game remained a draw at 1-1.
