BOYS BASKETBALL: Whiting nets 18 as BHS falls, 62-60

SAUK RAPIDS -- The Bemidji High School boys basketball team came out on the wrong end of a two-point battle Friday night, falling 62-60 on the road to Sauk Rapids-Rice.

SAUK RAPIDS -- The Bemidji High School boys basketball team came out on the wrong end of a two-point battle Friday night, falling 62-60 on the road to Sauk Rapids-Rice.

Linaes Whiting made his season debut and scored 18 points to lead the Lumberjacks (1-1). Jace Peterson added 14 to the BHS cause, which led to a three-point game at halftime, 33-30, in favor of the Storm (1-2).

Anthony Massman added to his 13 first-half points, though, working his way up to 21 by night’s end to help Sauk Rapids-Rice hang on for the 62-60 win. In addition to Massman’s game high, Bemidji State recruit Cody Landwehr finished with 11 points, matching Cade Milton-Baumgardner’s 11.

Spencer Konecne led Bemidji on the defensive end, totalling four blocks to go along with his five points, and Dominic Needham pulled down five rebounds for the Jacks, as well.

BHS will be back on the court at 12:30 p.m. today, taking on St. Cloud Apollo in St. Cloud.
