For the second consecutive game the Bemidji State University women's basketball team was cold on the offensive end, shooting just 33.9 percent in a 80-62 loss to No. 23 Concordia University-St. Paul Friday in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at the BSU Gymnasium.
The last time BSU shot so poorly was against the Golden Bears, Jan. 8 in a 85-62 loss where the Beavers shot their season-low 31.7 percent. CU shot lights out Friday, posting a 57.4 percent mark from the field, while shooting a season-best 66.7 percent from downtown.
BSU (11-9, 5-8 NSIC) hung with the fast-paced and extremely skilled Golden Bears to start the game, overcoming a CU team that didn't miss a shot until after four minutes ran off the clock.
With 13:46 remaining in the first half, BSU was down 15-9. A 5-0 run by the Golden Bears gave them their first double-digit lead of the game. With 11:07 left on the clock, sophomore Taylor Davis converted on a jumper to make the score 20-11.
CU then went on a 10-5 run to work its way up to a 14 point advantage. The Beavers responded with a 5-0 run, getting a two-pointer from Davis and a 3-pointer from freshman guard Shannon Thompson cutting the deficit back to nine at 21-30. CU then kicked it into third gear and closed the last 6:56 of the half on a 19-9 run, giving the road team a 49-30 lead at the break.

The hole was just too deep for the Beavers to climb out of and the Golden Bears held a 20-point lead for most of the half, but BSU did win the frame 32-31.
The Beavers took care of the ball in the game, only committing 12 turnovers and using 21 CU giveaways to score 24 points off turnovers. The ball just wasn't falling for BSU as it shot 20-of-59 in the game from the field and just 8-of-22 from beyond the arc, posting a 36.4 percent mark. Davis led the team in points and rebounds with 11 and six, respectively. Freshman Jessie Althoff was the only other BSU player to score in double-figures with 10 points. Thompson had eight points and four steals.
The Beavers complete the weekend with St. Cloud State University, Sunday at 6 p.m. at the BSU Gymnasium.
