BEMIDJI - The Bemidji State women’s basketball program announced the hiring of another assistant coach on Thursday.
Clint Nuemann will move behind the Beaver bench, helping out head coach Chelsea DeVille and assistant Sam Sikkink this season.
Nuemann, a 2015 graduate of the University of Minnesota, served as the Gophers’ men’s basketball team manager since 2014. While with the Gophers, Nuemann prepared gyms for practice, individual workouts and games, as well as managing film needs for the coaching staff and team.
He was also head coach of Minnesota Heat AAU team and freshmen baseball coach at Mounds View High School.
The Beavers open the regular season at home on Saturday, Nov. 14, against Crown College.
Stram first-team All-NSIC
BURNSVILLE - BSU soccer players Sarah Stram, Christine Szurek, Emily Olson, Rachael Norton and Miranda Famestad have been selected for All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors.
Stram was named First Team All-NSIC, while Szurek was named to the second team and Famestad, Norton and Olson were all named to the third team.
Stram, a junior forward, led the team and ranked sixth in the league with 10 goals.
Szurek, a junior midfielder who was a third-team pick a year ago, ranked third on the team in scoring with career-highs of five goals and four assists.
Norton was second on the team with seven goals and 19 points.
Olson, a senior defender and captain, tied for third on the team with four assists in 19 starts.
Famestad, a sophomore, led all BSU defenders and finished ranked sixth on the team in scoring, piling up six points in 19 starts.
The Beavers finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-7-1.
Olszewski National Player of the Week
LIBERTY, Mo. - BSU true freshman defensive back Gunner Olszewski had a record-tying day against Minot State last week.
That was enough to earn him a national defensive player of the week honor from the website D2Football.com. Olszewski was selected for the award after earning the NSIC’s defensive player of the week award on Monday.
Olszewski tied BSU’s single-game record of three interceptions in a 32-7 against Minot. He also led the team in tackles on the day with eight, four solo and four assisted, including one tackle for a loss of six yards.
Olszewski now ranks second in the conference and ninth in the country in total interceptions this season with six.
Olszewski is the first Beaver to earn a national player of the week award since D2Football.com named safety Brody Scheff the defensive player of the week on Dec. 11, 2011.
