Bemidji State golf: Johnson medalist at Twin Cities Classic

Justin Johnson carded a 1-under-par 71 Monday at the Wayzata Country Club and captured medalist honors at the Twin Cities Classic with a 54-hole score of 68-75-71-214.

Johnson's performance helped Bemidji State finish fifth in the 18-team event. The junior finished the tournament 2-under-par and was the lone golfer to break par for the three rounds.

Illinois Wesleyan won the team tournament at 882. Gustavus and St. Cloud tied for second at 893 while Carthage was fourth at 900 and BSU fifth at 297-304-908.

Other Bemidji State individual scores included Garrett Nelson's 74-75-78-277, Dan Menton's 73-78-78-229, Matthew Haugstad's 82-77-80-239 and Kevin Larson's 82-74-84-243.

The Twin Cities Classic was the final event in the fall BSU men's golf season. The Beavers will be off until March 26-27 when they participate in the Wayne State Invitational.
