Bemdji HS boys hockey team to face St. Cloud Tech in playoff opener

The Bemidji High boys hockey team drew the No. 4 seed for the Section 8-2A tournament and will entertain St. Cloud Tech at 7 p. m. Tuesday at Nymore Gardens.

Moorhead earned the top seed with its second win over Brainerd last weekend and a split wit Roseau during the year.

Roseau was seeded second and Brainerd third despite the Warriors 3-2 win over Roseau late in the year.

Trailing Bemidji and Tech come Buffalo, Monticello, River Lakes and Becker,

River Lakes will host Becker Saturday in the play-in game.

That winner goes to Moorhead Tuesday, Buffalo plays at Brainerd and Monticello makes the long trip to the north border to face Roseau.

The semifinals Feb. 29 send the Bemidji-Tech winner to Moorhead and the Brainerd-Buffalo winner to Roseau,

The title games is March 3, tentatively scheduled for Ralph Engelstad Arena at TRF but subject to change based on which teams make the final.

Bemidji took a 13-11 record into last night's final regular season game with Thief River Falls.

Tech was 15-9 at midweek.

The two did not meet this season. Tech has lost to Sartell and Brainerd twice and Moorhead, Roseau Warroad, Benilde and Alexandria once. But it has won its last four starts including a return game with Roseau.

Their scores against common opponents have been relatively similar.

Brainerd and Buffalo and Roseau and Monticello will be meeting for the first time.

River Lakes blanked Becker 8-0 in an early season test and did not play Moorhead.

Bemidji played in 8A the past twp seasons before opting up to 2A this year.

It failed to win the title either y ear.

Bemidji has made six trips to the state but none since back-to-back journeys in 1985-86 under Bryan Grand.
