WOMEN’S HOCKEY: Claire Vekich adds Rookie of the Month award to growing list

Claire Vekich has been honored by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the second day in a row.

BEMIDJI -- Claire Vekich has been honored by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the second day in a row.

Tuesday’s honor was even better than Monday’s Rookie of the Week award , as the Bemidji State women’s hockey freshman has also been named the WCHA Rookie of the Month for January.

Vekich scored three goals in January and had another assist as the Beavers went 3-3 in the month. Vekich has three Rookie of the Week honors this season, including the Jan. 31 award.

Also earning WCHA awards for January were Forward of the Month Taylor Heise (Minnesota); Defender of the Month Sophie Jaques (Ohio State) and Goaltender of the Month Jojo Chobak (Minnesota Duluth).
