WOMEN’S HOCKEY: Buckeyes best Beavers in 7-1 series finale

Bemidji State will try to get back in the win column with the Nutmeg Classic Tournament, which will be held on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25-26, in Hamden, Conn. Bemidji State opens against Quinnipiac at 2 p.m. Friday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Calli Forsberg had the lone bright spot for the Bemidji State women’s hockey team on Saturday, as the junior forward bagged the Beavers’ lone goal in a 7-1 loss to No. 2 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.

The Buckeyes (12-1-1, 12-1-1 WCHA), meanwhile, lit the lamp multiple times each period.

Sloane Matthews, Emma Peschel and Hadley Hartmetz all scored in the first frame, with Matthews securing OSU the lead just 1:46 into the contest.

Jennifer Gardiner and Hartmetz scored in the middle session to make it a 5-0 contest before Forsberg notched her strike at the 18:49 mark of the second period.

In the third period, Sophie Jaques and Sydney Morrow added on with two more for Ohio State, all building into the 7-1 win.

Penalties hurt the Beavers (3-12-1, 1-11 WCHA) in a big way, as the Buckeyes were 3-for-4 on the advantage. BSU finished 1-for-3.

Goaltender Abbie Thompson got the start in net for Bemidji State and stopped 22 shots on 27 attempts throughout the first two periods. Madison Faucher played the third period and went 9-for-11 between the pipes for the Beavers.

Raygan Kirk stopped 11 of 12 BSU shots on the afternoon for Ohio State.
