MINNEAPOLIS – The Bemidji State women’s hockey team put two goals on the board against No. 1 Minnesota on Saturday in Minneapolis, but BSU couldn’t match the Gophers’ scoring output. The U of M put up five goals total, including three in the second period, to win 5-2.
Emily Brown got the Gophers started with a score at 14:33 in the first period. BSU (10-15-3, 7-15-2 WCHA) countered with a goal by Taylor Nelson at 15:05, its first score of the weekend.
Minnesota (22-7-1, 17-6-1 WCHA) retook the lead with a goal by Taylor Heise at 9:14 in the second, but the Beavers answered the bell once again. Just 15 seconds later, Graysen Myers’ goal tied it at two.
From there, though, it was all Gophers. Savannah Norcross scored the game-winner at 10:47, with Abigail Boreen doubling it up at 14:32 for a 4-2 lead. Taylor Heise added an empty-netter at 17:22 in the third period to seal the outcome.
Hannah Hogenson finished with 42 saves for Bemidji State, with former BSU netminder Lauren Bench stopping 27 shots and earning the win for the U of M.

Bemidji State returns to the ice against No. 2 Ohio State at 6:01 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, and 3:01 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Sanford Center. It is the Beavers’ final home series of the regular season, and they will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday.
