GIRLS BASKETBALL: Jacks run away with blowout victory
BEMIDJI -- If anybody missed the first dominant run on Friday night, the Bemidji High School girls basketball team made sure to add an encore.
The Lumberjacks opened their game against Sauk Rapids-Rice with a 19-0 run, and then they finished the first half on a 17-0 run. The two flurries served as the biggest selling points in an 87-43 rout from the BHS Gymnasium.
Katie Alto powered the opening surge, netting eight points to help bring on the 19-0 score. Alto was up to 13 by the time the difference hit 20 at 24-4.
Soon after, Macy Flatness hit a 3-pointer that began the second avalanche of the night. Lindsey Hildenbrand put the finishing touches on the 17-0 run with a layup, giving Bemidji (7-4) a 46-14 lead by halftime.
The second half was all but a formality, as BHS outscored the Storm (2-10) by a 41-29 score. The Jacks cruised to victory and picked up, by far, their largest win of the season in the 44-point blowout.
Alto and Rumer Flatness shared the team lead with 15 points each, while Hildenbrand chipped in nine. In the balanced effort, Rylie Jones, Emma Neubeck, Mackenzie Nicklason and Taylor Wade all added seven points apiece, as well.
Bemidji will be back on the road when they face Minneapolis Southwest in the Crossover Classic, starting at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, in Perham.
