WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Bemidji State stuffed 73-63 by UMC

CROOKSTON -- The Bemidji State women’s basketball team fell a step behind against Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, and the Beavers couldn’t recover in time to prevent a 73-63 loss in Crookston.

Brooklyn Bachmann dropped in three first-quarter layups to keep BSU (2-8, 0-6 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) close, but Kylie Post’s 30-foot swish at the buzzer gave UMC (8-4, 3-3 NSIC) a 22-13 edge after one.

Bemidji State stormed back, though, using a 12-3 run to open the second quarter. Bachmann started it with a 3-pointer, Sydney Zerr mixed in two layups and Emma Rappe finished it with a three for a 25-all tie.

However, the Golden Eagles then went ahead for good. Minnesota Crookston scored 12 of the next 14 points, and they claimed a 39-33 advantage going into halftime. BSU climbed as close as four in the third quarter, but UMC worked itself back out to a 56-43 lead through three.

BSU never made it closer than a three-possession game in the final frame, and the Golden Eagles held on for the 73-63 win.

Bachmann finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Taylor Bray added 12 points herself. Rappe and Gabby DuBois each tallied another nine, as well. For Minnesota Crookston, Isieoma Odor poured in 28 points on 9-for-16 shooting and a 10-for-12 mark from the free throw line.

The Beavers will return to the BSU Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, when they host Minnesota Duluth.
