Elks Hoop Shoot set for Jan. 20
BEMIDJI -- The local competition for the 46th annual Elks Hoop Shoot, the national free-throw
shooting contest for youngsters ages 8-13 (age as of April 1, 2018), will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Bemidji Middle School gymnasium. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the free throw contest will begin at approximately noon.
More than three million youngsters from throughout the country entered last year’s competition for boys and girls in age categories 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advances through
four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals in Chicago in April.
Winners of the local contest will be crowned champions of Bemidji and will advance to
the Minnesota North District Competition Jan. 28, which will be held in Virginia, Minn., and will compete for the chance to advance on to rounds in Hutchinson and Iowa City, Iowa.
The winners and their parents, who advance to district, state, regional and national
competition, will be guests of the Elks, and the Elks will pay their expenses. For information about the program, contact the Elks Lodge at 218-751-1052 or Ken Traxler at 218-209-7387.
