WINONA -- The Bemidji State baseball team couldn’t solve Winona State’s pitchers Wednesday afternoon, falling 3-2 and 9-3 in a doubleheader sweep in Winona.
Shortstop Blake Huntley led the Beavers (2-22, 1-11 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) at the plate by recording three hits and two RBIs for the twinbill. BSU played as the home team after the doubleheader was moved from Bemidji to Winona due to better playing conditions in southern Minnesota.
The Warriors (13-10, 7-5 NSIC) opened the scoring in the first game by plating all three of their runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Caleb Carlson answered for the Beavers by smacking a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. However, WSU’s Nicolas Herrold struck out the side in the seventh to end the game.
Kevin Smith pitched four solid innings, giving up only three runs on eight hits to go along with two strikeouts, but suffered the loss on the mound.

Zach Henderson pitched 3 1/3 innings in his start and took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
BSU is set to face Sioux Falls in its home opener Saturday, April 6, in Bemidji, weather permitting. The doubleheader is slated to start at 1 p.m.
