John Vogeler scored 27 points, 16 of them in the first half, to spark Alexandria to a 62-58 victory over the Bemidji boys basketball team Saturday at the BHS gym.

The Lumberjacks led 30-25 at the break and leading the charge were Cody Rutledge who had 10 first-half points and Connor Sullivan who contributed seven.

Devaughn Rainey contributed 12 points for the Jacks in the second session but the Cardinals were able to overtake Bemidji down the stretch and hang on for the win.

Bemidji played without their two starting guards. Mitch Brown is recovering from injuries received in a car accident last week and team officials are being cautious with his return to the lineup. Carey Woods is expected back on the court Tuesday when the Jacks (11-9) host Detroit Lakes.
