ST. PAUL -- Two area athletes took second place in their respective events at the Class A state track and field meet at Hamline University in St. Paul on Saturday.
Clearbrook-Gonvick senior Josiah Hubbard and Northome/Kelliher/Blackduck freshman Monica Johnson both earned silver for their respective schools.
Hubbard’s finish came in the 300-meter hurdles, where he bettered his preliminary time by 0.99 seconds and clocked in at personal-best 39.21. Jade Reicks of St. Peter was first in 38.54. The two recorded the only sub-40 times in the field.
Johnson’s shot put throw of 42-08.00 was also enough for second place and bettered her personal record by nearly four feet. Pequot Lakes’ Desera Engholm claimed first with a 43-11.25 mark.
Elsewhere, NKB senior Adnew Stueven was sixth in the 1600-meter run at 4:30.72, which set a new personal record. Geno Uhrbom of Greenway/Nashwauk/Keewatin was first in 4:18.22, over six seconds faster than second place.
C-G senior Ethan Dorman was also scheduled to compete in the high jump but did not compete.
The Clearbrook-Gonvick boys tied for 28th in the team rankings with 10 points, while Northome/Kelliher/Blackduck tied for 52nd with four points.
The NKB girls shared 32nd place after earning 10 points, and the C-G girls tied for 64th with two points.
