1. PAUL -- Bemidji High School senior Jordan Mann finished off her track and field career with her first-ever state finals run on Saturday.

Mann ran a 12.67 in the 100-meter dash during the Class AA state meet at Hamline University in St. Paul, which placed her eighth of nine in the championship field.

“There was a headwind, so they were running into wind today,” BHS boys head coach Chris Lehman said. “There were quite a few races where the times weren’t as fast for some of the events.”

Shaliciah Jones of North High School in St. Paul won the state championship with an 11.90. Edina’s Maddie Dahlien (12.35) and Northfield/ARTech’s Emma Hodapp (12.36) rounded out the top three.

Mann had the fifth-fastest time in the preliminary runs before sliding three spots in the finals. Nevertheless, Lehman said her impact on the program was much more than one race.

“I’d say she was a little disappointed in her placing,” he said. “But the thing we told her was that she had a great career for us.

“It was an honor to coach her for all these years. … Those are the positives we want to think about: all the great things she’s done. She goes out as probably one of the top sprinters in Bemidji High School history.”

Mann was one of five Lumberjack participants at the state meet and the only one to advance to Saturday’s finals. On the team side, the Hopkins boys edged out Rosemount 78-76 for the Class AA title, while the Rosemount girls beat out Alexandria 71.75-70 for a championship of their own.

Mann leaves the Bemidji program as one of its most decorated runners in recent memory.

“She’s definitely been a huge asset to our team and just a great kid,” Lehman said. “She’s really dedicated these last couple years to the track and wanting to get better. … She’s been a lot of fun. We’re definitely going to miss her.”
