BEMIDJI -- Mark Fodness reached 400 career coaching wins with Bemidji High School on Monday as the BHS boys tennis team beat Grand Rapids and Crookston 7-0 at home.
Fodness has now hit 401 total wins at Bemidji High School, made up of 163 on the boys side and 238 on the girls side.
All but one match on Monday finished up in straight sets, while senior Drew Osmundson won a third-set tiebreaker at fourth singles in his varsity debut against the Pirates.
“He's improved a lot since he first joined the team last year,” Fodness said of Osmundson. “You couldn't ask for a better teammate, and all the players and coaches were really excited when he fought back and won the third-set tiebreaker.”
Spencer Konecne had the quickest day for Bemidji (15-3), winning by matching 6-0, 6-1 scores at top singles. Louis Saxton went 2-0 at No. 2 singles, as well. Logan Jensen and Quincy Wilson each won a match at third singles, while Osmundson and Jonah Fuhrman tallied one win apiece at fourth singles.
The doubles lineups had different pairings on each end of the doubleheader. Michael Dickinson, Wyatt Harrom, Ben Hess and Silas Hess all finished 2-0, while Eric Guida, Kolden Michalicek, Jensen and Wilson all went 1-0.
“The team did a great job of being dialed in and focused,” Fodness said. “We're looking at a variety of combinations, so we had some moving parts in the lineup.”
Moorhead will come to town for a 4 p.m. match Tuesday, May 14, at BHS.
