ALEXANDRIA -- The Bemidji High School boys tennis team locked into a pair of tight battles on Friday, coming out with a 1-1 record in Alexandria.

BHS opened with a 4-3 loss to the host Cardinals but won a 5-2 matchup against St. Cloud Tech in the finale.

Against Alex, Spencer Konecne was the lone singles winner for the Lumberjacks in a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the top spot. Silas Hess and Michael Dickinson (6-2, 7-5), plus Eric Guida and Logan Jensen (4-6, 6-3, 10-5), won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.

It wasn’t quite enough to upend the Cardinals, though, who took the decisive fourth point with Evan Lattimer’s 2-6, 6-3 (10-4) win at No. 4 singles.

Against Tech, four of Bemidji’s five wins came in straight sets.

Konecne was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 1 singles, while every doubles tandem won convincingly. Wyatt Harrom and Silas Hess won 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot, Ben Hess and Kolden Michalicek won with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 2, and Guida and Jensen came through for a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 3.

At the fourth singles spot, Jonah Fuhrman came back for a 2-6, 6-4 (10-4) win, as well.

The Lumberjacks are now 13-3 on the season. Bemidji will next host Grand Rapids and Crookston for a home triangular, starting at 3 p.m. Monday, May 13, at BHS.
