CURLING: Bemidji curlers kick off U18 Nationals in Chaska

CHASKA -- Bemidji curlers began play at the 2019 USA Curling U18 National Championships on Thursday at the Chaska Curling Center.

The Minnesota 1 rink claimed an 11-4 victory over Washington in its first match of the girls event. The team features Bemidji’s Damaris Berg, as well as Abbie Page (Mankato), Sara Olson (Duluth) and Maggie Payette (Duluth).

In the boys competition, the Minnesota 2 rink fell 6-5 in their afternoon match against Dakota Territory 1 to open the tournament.

Minnesota 2 is comprised of Bemidji curlers Jonathon Gassvig, Shawn Quello and Seth Solo, as well as Nisswa’s Daniel Murphy.

Round-robin play continues Friday in Chaska. The Minnesota 1 girls will face Mountain Pacific and Great Lakes 2, while the Minnesota 2 boys will meet Wisconsin and Mountain Pacific.
