BEMIDJI -- Bemidji State junior defensive specialist Emma Hallmann led the Bemidji defense with 30 digs against Minnesota State University Moorhead at the BSU Gymnasium on Friday night, and one of them was the 1,000th of her career.

The Beavers took the Dragons to five games, but MSUM came out on top in the end with a 15-12 win in the fifth set. Moorhead took sets one and two, 25-18 and 28-26, before BSU came back to take sets three and four, 25-18 and 25-22, to force the winner-take-all set.

After Hallmann, Becky Schroeder, Becka Cronin and Mary Campbell picked up 21, 20 and 19 digs, respectively.

Offensively for the Beavers (6-21, 3-16 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference), Julie Touchett knocked down 17 aces, followed by Maddie Filipiak (16) and Anna Averkamp (13). Campbell also posted 57 assists on the evening.

For the Dragons (11-16, 7-13 NSIC) Kaylyn Jenkins led the attack with 20 kills, while Amanda Carlson had 14 and Lexi Gilbertson, 11. Becca Koehn and Lauren Kiewiet split the setting duties with 32 and 25 assists, respectively, while Monica Vega led the back line with 23 digs.

BSU wraps up the weekend, as well as the regular season, with a 3 p.m. match today against No. 5 Northern State.
