CURLING: Fenson eliminated from Nationals
FARGO, N.D. -- Pete Fenson’s Bemidji rink was eliminated from the 2018 USA Curling National Championships after a 10-4 loss to Todd Birr’s team in the final draw of round-robin play Wednesday night at Scheels Arena in Fargo, N.D.
The loss dropped Team Fenson to 4-5 on the tournament, which means they will miss out on the playoffs. Also on the team are Bemidji’s Alex Fenson and Mark Fenner, as well as Chisholm’s Shawn Rojeski.
Heath McCormick and Greg Persinger’s teams ended the round robin on top of the standings at 8-1, while Team Birr finished 6-3. Jed Brundidge and Kroy Nernburger’s rink tied for fourth place at 5-4 and met in a tiebreaker Thursday. The Nernberger rink prevailed 6-3 to advance to the Page playoffs Thursday night.
Team Persinger was set to meet Team McCormick in the Page 1-2 playoff game Thursday night with the winner advancing directly to Saturday’s final. Team Birr faced Team Nernberger in the Page 3-4 playoff game with the winner moving on to today’s semifinal to face the Page 1-2 loser, with the loser of the 3-4 match getting sent home.
