CASS LAKE - After dropping the first set at home Tuesday against the No. 5 team in the Section 8A East Sub-Section, Blackduck, Cass Lake-Bena took the next three sets to win 18-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-18.

The No. 4 seeded Panthers (14-10), who were swept by the Drakes (9-16) two weeks ago, got their revenge by eliminating Blackduck with three strong sets after a slow start.

Cass Lake-Bena dropped set one, 25-18, but dominated in set two 25-13 before giving the Drakes a double dose of their own medicine with back-to-back 25-18 wins to close out the match.

The Panthers will play the top-seeded team in the East, Fosston at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Bemidji State Gymnasium.

Northome/Kelliher swept

FOSSTON - After beating Red Lake in three sets on Monday, Northome/Kelliher was swept by the No. 1 seed in the Section 8A East Sub-Section, Fosston, on Tuesday, 25-11, 25-7, 25-17.

The No. 8 seeded Mustangs’ (8-18) season came to an end at the hands of the Greyhounds (20-10) ,who got the match started with a 25-11 blowout.

It only got worse for Northome/Kelliher as Fosston dominated set two 25-7 before closing the match out 25-17.

Fosston and Cass Lake-Bena will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at BSU Gymnasium. The two teams have not played each other this season.
