Axemen sign four more players

BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Axemen indoor football team said Tuesday they had signed four additional players to their roster, defensive lineman Maurice Hamption, offensive lineman Chuck Palonis, wide receiver Maurice Patterson and linebacker Jory Johnson.

Hampton played college football at the University of Maryland, starting 11 games for the Terrapins. He also signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Detroit Lions.

Palonis was a three-time, all-conference player at Kentucky Wesleyan University and played for the Indoor Football League's Green Bay Blizzard, as well as for the Lone Star Football League's Abilene Ruff Riders.

Patterson played college football at the University of Nevada, and he signed with the IFL's Wyoming Cavalry in 2010. Last year, he played in 12 games for Wyoming, with 37 catches for 442 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Johnson recorded 227 tackles in his four years at the University of Connecticut, and also earned Big East All-Academic honors in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The four will join 12 players already signed by the Axemen, who begin play in February at the Sanford Center in Bemidji.
