As a seaplane pilot and founder of the Seaplane Pilots Association, a worldwide origination, I was stunned to see the Pioneer story on Seaplanes on the back page of the Wednesday paper on March 23 called "MID-WEEK FUN."
At first, I thought it was merely a kid's fun page. Then I started reading the text and realized the information was very accurate.

The story of Henri Fabre was right on and he is recognized as the first man to fly off the water in a plane in 1910. Because of Henri, the SPA issued an annual award to a seaplane pilot that has made great contributions to water flying.

Out of about 30 seaplanes pilots in the Bemidji area, the Henri Fabre Award went to a local seaplane pilot in Bemidji. Name withheld, per the recipient. Keep in mind this was a nationwide search for a recipient.
