LETTER TO THE EDITOR: With donations, Legion brings Humboldt hockey team to town
On April 12, a bus carrying 29 junior hockey players and their coaches was slammed into by a semi, leaving 16 dead and the other 13 injured. As a gesture of goodwill to the entire community of Humboldt, Saskatchewan; the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Team; and the Humboldt AA Pee Wee team, the Ralph Gracie American Legion Post 14 of Bemidji is sponsoring their Pee Wee team for the Paul Bunyan International Hockey Tournament, which will be held in Bemidji Dec. 28-30.
This is made possible with donations from many individuals and organizations. Special thanks go to the major donors: Ralph Gracie American Legion Post 14, Sanford Health, First National Bank Bemidji, Beltrami Electric Cooperative, the George W. Neilson Foundation, Otter Tail Power Co., Super 8 Motel, Bank Forward/Insure Forward, Eagles Aerie 351, Galen Nagle Golf Tournament (Bemidji State University Men's Hockey Alumni), Team Industries, First City Lions, the Bemidji Pioneer, Bemidji Lions, Minnesota Wild, Up North Sports and Larry Eichstadt.
Claude H. Sand is commander and Jim Haskell is historian for Ralph Gracie American Legion Post 14 in Bemidji. Haskell also is organizer of the post’s “Help Humboldt Heal” effort.
