It was interesting in last Sunday’s Pioneer, reading about the Ness Cafe in Erskine. When I was a child in the early 1940s, our family was often driving from Grand Forks to Bemidji, and sometimes my Grandma Knudson would be with us. She always had us stop at the Ness Cafe so she could visit with her sister, one of the many Hovet sisters of McIntosh.
This sister was the wife of either Carl or Andrew Ness, the original owners. She was most likely the cook. I don’t remember actually meeting her, but if she was anything like my Norwegian grandmother, she was a great lady.
