How do you get the most out of life? The best parts of life start with new beginnings. You find a new job, it's a new beginning. You meet a soul mate, it's a new beginning. You launch a new program, it's a new beginning. You explore some place you have never been before, it's a new beginning. You take a class, go to college, graduate, find a job, buy a new car, start up a friendship, it's a new beginning. Life is full of new beginnings and wouldn't it be dull without them?
We read lots of books and hear lots of talk about getting the most out of life. I take heart in the words of Scarlet O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind," which, by the way, were the last words said in the movie, "Tomorrow is another day."
Tomorrow is another day. Tomorrow will always be another day. Isn't that wonderful. We can start all over again. We can begin doing the things we always wanted to do. There is something special about every day. It's a time for new beginnings.
It's time for a new beginning for the Notre Dame Cathedral. What if France would have said, "It's going to cost billions to restore it. We can use that money in a better place, right?" France realized that the Cathedral was more than a building, it represented much more. It represented the soul of France.
It's a time of new beginnings for the Minnesota Twins. I guess we say this every year but isn't it refreshing to say it? It gives us hope that this year may be a year like 1987 and 1991. Who knows?

It's a time of new beginnings for people who fish. They are getting their tackle boxes in order, repairing their motors, patching the leaks in their boats, wondering if they dare buy some new lures. It's a great feeling. Every year will be the year they catch the big one.
It's a time of new beginnings for would be graduates. It's a fearful time but a happy time. "No more pencils, no more books, no more teacher's dirty looks." Graduating from high school was one of the worst days of my life. I didn't want to leave those hallowed halls of ivy. They were too good for me. Nothing could top high school. But here I am today writing about new beginnings in the last quarter of my life.
It's a time for new beginnings in America when a young, 37 year-old gay mayor from South Bend, Ind., can run for president of the United States. This is a watershed in American politics and we ought to be proud that it can happen.
It's a time for new beginnings for all of the birds that have once again made our yards and forests buzz with action. There's an eagles nest on the shore of Lake Puposky that I pass on the way to Red Lake. One eagle is guarding the nest while its mate sits on the eggs. They have a lot of work ahead of them but they instinctively know without their efforts, those eaglets would not experience their own new beginnings in life. Parents have an awesome responsibility to help children find their own new beginnings.
It's a new beginning for a Korean rock group named BTS. If you don't know anything about them, ask the next young person you see. They could become more famous than the Beatles. They are seven young men, super dancers, who seem to have a knack for just enjoying their new beginning. I predict they will be around for a long time.
It's a new beginning for Simon and Simone, our golden retrievers. Chipmunks are out; swans are swimming near the shore; squirrels are very active still raiding the bird feeders; there are lots of puddles, lots of mud, and the snow is gone so we can finally take some more long walks. Spring has sprung for Simon and Simone.
It's a new beginning for you and me. We can't wait. Turn off the TV. Put away your iPhone. No more video games. Time is wasting. Hubert Humphrey knew about new beginnings and he knew about challenges. In 1950, Hubert Humphrey was last in popularity in the U.S. Senate. In 1954, Humphrey initiated and passed one of the most challenging pieces of legislation ever-civil rights. He did it because he realized we couldn't waste any more time. We had to begin anew. In 1960, Humphrey became the most sought after man in Washington.
Easter is a time of new beginnings. That's what it is all about-for you and for me. Let's take advantage of it.

Riddle: What do you call a boomerang that does not come back? (A stick) Every time our dogs find a new stick, it's a new beginning for them. They know how to enjoy life.
100% graduation
A local movement is underway to ensure the area has a 100 percent high school graduation rate. These tips will increase the likelihood that students will stay in school.
1. Kids who have a boatload of issues can still graduate. It takes people around them to show lots of compassion but also a "let's start anew" attitude.
2. Kids who are turned off of learning make it a tough time for teaching. Now is the time teachers need to put it all together and teach as if their life depended upon it. It's like the last two minutes of the Super Bowl and the score is tied.
3. You can predict those elementary students who are most likely to drop out by looking at one factor-absenteeism. We have to solve this problem. It takes a new beginning.
