Francis E. Petersen

Francis E. “Pete” Petersen, 91, died on January 22, 2022 at St. Therese Oxbow Lake in Brooklyn Park, MN. Formerly of Bemidji and Shoreview, MN. Francis was born in Bemidji on October 14, 1930 to Peter and Isabel (Durand) Petersen. After graduating from Bemidji H.S. in 1949, he served in the US Navy for four years. He retired in 1986 after 26 years with Qwest Dex. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and VFW. Pete enjoyed everything outdoors. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter, and golfer. He particularly loved feeding and watching the birds near their Big Lake home. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Hub) Petersen; three children and seven grandsons, Mary E. (Daniel) Carlson, Andrew (Yani) Carlson and Richard Carlson; Michael (Lori) Petersen, Nicholas (Marni) Petersen, Jonathan, and Zachary Petersen; and Ann Petersen, Keevon, and Kadin Petersen; sisters, Iyone (Arlen) Bartels, Sister Vivian Petersen, Order of St. Benedict, and Cornelia (Rubin) Smith. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Clifford (Virginia) and Joseph (Marion) Petersen; and sister, Gurine (Harry) Brune. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday Feb. 2, 2022 at 11 AM with visitation at 10 AM at St. Gerard’s Church, 9600 Regent Ave. N., Brooklyn Park. Private family inurnment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association or North Memorial Hospice.
