Joyce H. Pomp passed to heaven on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from her home in Tenstrike, MN.
A private graveside service will be held soon with a public memorial service at a later date.
Joyce was born April 4, 1926, in Hamilton, Michigan to Henry and Bertha Nyenhuis. She attended Allegan County Teacher’s School and received a teaching certificate and taught for a year.
Joyce was an avid sports fan all her life with baseball being her favorite. During WW2 she was the “spark plug” catcher for the Hamilton Amateur Softball team which won many titles with large crowds in attendance. She could often be found listening to both the Tigers and the Twins games. Being a person with Michigander roots, she closely followed the Michigan Professional and College sports teams. The last game she saw was when the Vikings played the Lions on November 8 of this year.
After the War Joyce fell in love with a young man who had served in the Army Air Force overseas for 3 1/2 years, and was now studying for the ministry. His name was Jerry Pomp, and they were married August 1, 1950 in Hamilton, MI.
Joyce moved into the role of a Pastors wife and mother, and succeeded in both rolls. They served churches in Davis, SD, Edgerton, MN, Amherst, SD, and Volga, SD. In 1977 they moved to Tenstrike, MN.
She worked for Image Photography and then Morell’s Trading Post.
Joyce continued to minister God’s Life and His Word to others even until her last breath. She taught a Bible class at Tenstrike Community Church, visited the sick in the hospital, and volunteered at Havenwood Nursing Home until last March when the COVID shutdown occurred.
She loved her Lord Jesus and her passion was to study God’s Word, and teach it to whoever would listen. She was an avid reader, and always learning.
Joyce lived her life both through the mountain tops and the valleys, looking to her precious Lord for His help and strength. Each day she experienced the Love of God, and it was shown through the Joy that flowed from her for almost 95 years!
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, sisters Willamena (Juke) Brandt and Belva (Ken) Rigterink. She is survived by her children Steven (Joyce A) Pomp, Christine (Dan) Woodward, David (Joan) Pomp, Timothy (Cathy) Pomp and Julie (Bob) Bush, 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
