Marjorie “Marty” Clarice Evenson

Marty Evenson, 92, of Bemidji, MN passed away peacefully, on October 8, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Bemidji. An interment service was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji, under the direction of Pastor Corey Fuhrman, First Lutheran Church, Bemidji.
Marty was born January 13, 1928, in Hatton, ND to Selmer and Julia (Wasness) Evenson. She moved with her parents to Mentor, MN in 1941 where she attended high school. She attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis from 1948-1950, where she met Dick Evenson. They were married on August 26, 1950 in Mentor. They lived in Forest City, Iowa while Dick finished his schooling and Belmond, Iowa for his first few years of teaching. They moved to Bemidji in 1956. She worked at the Bemidji State University library from 1968 until her retirement in 1990.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church and active in the First Lutheran Church Women. She volunteered for some years at the Havenwood Care Center. She enjoyed her family, church, gardening, music, and reading. Marty made beautiful cards, often using photgraphs Dick had taken of their flowers, especially their roses. She would add a Bible verse and include a little poem that she had composed making each card very special to the person receiving it.
Marty is survived by her children: Kae Evenson Johnson and Joan Evenson Raddatz, both of Bemidji, Craig (Barbara Olson) Evenson, St. Paul, and Dave (Jessica) Evenson, Bemidji and Gilbert, AZ; 5 granddaughters: Leigh Torgerson, Bemidji, Alicia (Mike) Asmussen, Rogers, MN, Amy (Vesna Bozhinoski) Evenson, Mankato, MN, and Nicole and Morgan Evenson, Gilbert, AZ; and 7 great grandchildren: Devin and Kaid Henry, Madelyn Haugen, Avery and Evan Asmussen, and Elena and Isabella Evenson, special sister-in-law Alice Evenson, Minneapolis, and many very special nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by Dick Evenson, her husband of 68 years, her parents, brothers Sam and Bob Evenson, infant granddaughter Amandia Evenson, sisters-in-law Maude Smestad Evenson and Mabel Evenson, son-in-law Dwight Raddatz, and daughter-in-law Sue Ramon Evenson.
