He was born on January 17, 1943, at home in Bena, MN the son of Valentine G. and Louise Elizabeth Bruns. He was raised and educated in Bena until the 6th grade, then attended school in Cass Lake, until he graduated from Cass Lake High School. He spent several years in the Minneapolis area, working several jobs. He returned to Bena in 1966 as owner of the Big Winnie Motel and Steak House. A few years later he followed his dream and sold the motel to attend Forestry School. He spent his career life working for the United States Forest Service in Deer River. Kenny loved everything outside, and began fishing and hunting at a very young age. He never married but had his Labs to love. He even named one Hemaglobin. Kenny greatly enjoyed conversations with one and all. He was a very devoted son to a wonderful mother. When Kenny’s sister and her husband both died, He and his Mother finished raising their four kids. In 1995, Kenny and his brother Bob started a wild rice processing business. Ken worked there up until the fall of 2019 when illness made it too difficult for him. He was a kind and loving uncle to all his nieces, and nephews. He was happiest telling stories about growing up in Bena and his work.
He is survived by his: Brother, Bob (Gloria) Bruns and their children; Bobbi (Shawn) Fadness, Michael (Valerie) Bruns, His sisters children, Jeff, Scott, Jill, Lisa, Great nephews, Matt Reimer, Dillon Bruns, Dan Reimer, Mason Fadness, Spencer Reimer, Kaleb Bruns, Great-Nieces, Amanda and Alyssa, Close Friends, John Wilman, Carl Racchini, and Lonnie “Ausker” Ausk.
