Kay Marie Martinson, 75, of Wilkinson Township near Cass Lake, MN died Sunday, May 2, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte, MN with Rev. Rene Mehlberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji assisted the family.

Kay was born July 14, 1945 in Grand Rapids, MN, the daughter of Chester and Ethel (Lyman) Sharbonda. She was raised and educated in Remer graduating from Remer High School in 1963. She married Larry Martinson on October 24, 1964 in Remer. They lived in Cass Lake from 1964- 1971, then lived in Talmoon, MN from 1971- 78 and then returned to Cass Lake in 1978, where they have lived since. Kay was a kind and compassionate woman who loved animals. She always carried treats in her pocket in case she met a dog on her travels. Throughout her life she enjoyed a variety of activities including buying and restoring old oak furniture. Her flower garden brought her great joy and she was never without a good book. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Laporte, and the Family Safety Network.

She is survived by her husband Larry of Cass Lake,  daughter Michelle Smith of Blackduck,  son Scott Martinson of Cass Lake,  granddaughters Krystal (Philip) Ragan of Bemidji and Samantha Vannett of Fargo,  great granddaughters Addison Gaulrapp and Teagynn Vannett of Fargo.

She was preceded in death by her parents brothers James Roy and Lew Sharbonda, and sisters Josephine Ammerman and Ruth Pederson.

Honorary casketbearers will be Leonard Tompkins, Gil Morris, Pete Zothman, Robert Ammerman, Philip Ragan and Steve Bayman.
