Helen Shingler, 86, of Bemidji, formerly from International Falls, went to be with her Lord on April 24, 2020 in her home with her family by her side.

A private memorial service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.

Helen was born on April 26, 1933. She attended Moose Park School until later beginning in Blackduck, where she graduated from in 1951. After graduation she moved to Duluth and worked for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She would move back to Blackduck where she would marry her high school sweetheart, Ed Shingler, in 1954. They would remain married for 58 years until Ed’s passing in 2013.

Helen and Ed raised two sons, Edward and Jeff. While in Blackduck she was a Cub Scout leader and involved with vacation bible school. In 1974 when Ed began working for Koochiching County, they moved to International Falls. There she served the church on the alter committee and Ladies’ Aid for many years. In 2005 Ed and Helen moved back to Bemidji to be closer to family, where they would remain.

She was a loving wife, mother, and friend to all that knew her. She never asked for much, but she gave everyone her all. She loved to cook and bake. She maintained a supply of fresh-baked goodies on hand when friends and family would visit. She held strong family values and maintained a strong Christian faith. Her strong faith never wavered, although tested many times. Her unconditional love will never be forgotten.

She is survived by sons, Edward of Minneapolis, and Jeff (Kim) of Hermantown; grandsons Zachary and Caleb; twin granddaughters Madeleine and Molly; siblings Elsie Nelson of Northfield MN, Mary Galer of Seattle WA, Loretta Groslags of St. James MN, Clarence (Margaret) Michalko in White Bear Lake, and Jim (Alverna) Michalko of Cass Lake MN.
