Bessie Jacobson

Bessie May (Harvey) Jacobson went to meet her savior Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN, surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held on 3:00 Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4400 Eckles Rd NW. Family requests memorials to the Seventh Day Adventist Church under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji.

Bessie was born May 4, 1922 in Townsend, MT to John William Harvey and Edna Bell (Palmer) Harvey. Moving to Helena as a child, she graduated from High School in Helena 1940. She married Eric Gilbert Jacobson on May 25, 1940. Their children, Ted and Margaret were born there. In 1948 they moved to Solway MN where they owned and operated Jacobson Motors and Body Shop. David, Robert and Barbara were born in Bemidji. After raising her children, Bessie worked as a nurse’s aide and an LPN at the old Bemidji Hospital while pursuing an R.N. From there she became Head Nurse at Greensview Nursing Home in Bagley until retirement.

Bessie loved knitting, crocheting, sewing, hairdressing, painting, singing and volunteering for activities at the Bemidji Seventh Day Adventist church. Bessie became a charter member of a Seventh Day Adventist Clothing Center. She was the much beloved center of several generations of family holiday gatherings where she greeted all with wit, humor, warm hugs and frequent giggles. Bessie loved sweets, especially Almond Roca, which she was known to secret away.

Bessie is survived by her five children and their spouses Ted and Sharon, Margaret and (Bob Grimsley) David and Pam, Robert and Carole, and Barbara and (Roland Lewis), as well her sister Joan Gunter, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Jacobson, her brother Robert Harvey and her sister Genevieve Buck.
