Arlin “Bud” Henry Sorheim

Arlin “Bud” Henry Sorheim, 87, of Tenstrike, Minnesota, passed on to heaven on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 from his home, to forever be with his Lord and Savior Jesus.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Tenstrike Community Church in Tenstrike, MN with Pastor Steve Pomp officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery in Frohn Township with military honors at a later date.

Bud was born on February 18, 1933 to Adolf and Gladys (Fletcher) Sorheim in Puposky, MN. He graduated from Bemidji High School and joined the US Air Force in 1952. He served in the 11th Air Division, rank Airman First Class, as a crew chief and mechanic at Ladd Air Force Base in Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Martha Ann Hurlbert on August 22, 1959 in Bemidji, MN and together they had 5 children. Bud lived in several places in Minnesota over his lifetime including Pleasant Valley, White Fish Lake, Solway, and Blackduck. He moved to Tenstrike, MN in 1961. In earlier years he farmed, worked as a mechanic at Dave Walters, and logged in the woods with Clifford Gilchrist. After marriage, he was self-employed as a logger, a farmer, and the owner and operator of a sawmill in Blackduck. He loved animals! He raised elk for 11 years, and also raised a plethora of other animals, including unusual ones: Mouflon sheep, Scottish Highland cows, and pheasants.

Bud had an amazing gift of hospitality, and made people from around the world feel welcome in his home. He loved to tell stories and visit with people. He liked to make others laugh (and his family loved to listen to him laugh!) He was known by many for his tender-heart and generosity, as well as being a very hard worker. He enjoyed relaxing in his easy chair, and was well known for his love of sweets.

He was a member of the Tenstrike Community Church.

Arlin is survived by his wife, Martha; 4 daughters, Vicky (Adam) Charon of Bemidji, MN, Kathy (John) Coutlee and Cindy (Scott) Davis of Tenstrike, MN, and Janie (Andy) Nordberg of Golden Valley, MN; a son, Greg (Lisa) Sorheim of Blackduck, MN; 9 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert Sorheim and Elroy (Carol) Sorheim; 3 sisters, Dorothy (John) Hurlbert, Karen (Ed) Ruby, and Marilyn (Doug) Miller.

Arlin was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Beatrice (Chuck) McCay and June Sorheim; and 3 brothers, Vernon (Donna) Sorheim, Donald Sorheim, and Loren Sorheim.
