Alan Gorick

Alan Richard Gorick, 57, of Puposky, died Saturday, October 16, 2021, at his home.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the Eagles Club in Bemidji. A military salute will be performed and a lunch buffet will follow. All are welcome.

Alan was born November 4, 1963, on Clark Air Base in the Philippines. He was raised in the Chicago area until 1970 when his parents moved the family to Bemidji. He graduated from Bemidji High School in 1981 and served with the US Army from 1983-1990. He married Kathleen DeGarmo in 1989 and they had two sons, Kyle and Nicholas; they later divorced. He attended Vermillion Community College in Ely, graduating with a degree in Hydrology and upon graduation, worked for Farmstead in Albert Lea until they closed. He then moved to Hokah, MN and worked as the Superintendent of their Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant until 1999 when he returned to Bemidji and began working at the Bemidji Wastewater Treatment Plant. In the following decades, his dedication saw him ascend the ranks until he became Superintendent in 2008.

He reconnected with high school classmate Lisa Janov in 2010; sparks flew, and they were married on July 26, 2014. Al was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and trapping, especially when doing it with the people he loved. Whether he was camping in the Boundary Waters with his sons, riding a wheeler through the woods with his grandson, Korbyn, deer, duck, or grouse hunting with Lisa, or tending the garden with Lisa or by himself, when he was outdoors, he was at his happiest. His self-taught wood working skills were a testament to his determined and curious nature, a combination that made him a tenacious problem solver. If someone needed help, Al was there to offer it.

Al will be deeply and forever loved and missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa; sons, Kyle and Nicholas; stepchildren, Joel Kunze and Jordyn Heckman; grandson, Korbyn; siblings, Valerie Gorick, Heather Moran, Theo Gorick, and Lara Adolph; two nephews and three nieces; aunts, uncle and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Jean Schlueter; stepfather, Ronald Charles Schlueter; father, Alan Paul Gorick; grandparents and great grandparents.
