Robert Thomas "Tom" Dougherty

Robert Thomas "Tom" Dougherty passed away in Altamonte Springs, Florida on December 11, 2018 under the care of hospice.

Tom was born in Bemidji, Minnesota on May 11, 1931 to parents Thomas and Margaret Dougherty. He attended schools in Bemidji and graduated from Bemidji High School with the class of 1949. He entered the U.S. Navy and made a career of the Navy. Tom was trained as an electrician in the Navy and served all over the world in this capacity. While in the Navy and stationed in Japan he met his first wife Susie. He retired from the Navy at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He and his wife, Susie settled in Orlando, Florida and made the home there. After his retirement from the Navy he and a Navy friend owned and operated an electronic repair shop for a number of years. Susie passed away in 1981. He later married again. He and his wife, Lois shared 30 years of marriage together. Lois passed away in December of 2017.

Tom is survived by his sister, Charlene Slough of Fosston, Minnesota; two nieces, Kathy (Rick) Dufour/Patton, Kelly (Marty) Gubrud, both of Brainerd, Minnesota; two nephews, Timothy Slough (Janelle Saiger) of Bemidji, Minnesota and Patrick (Teresa) Slough of Brainerd, Minnesota; great nephews, Joshua Patrick, Tyler, Joseph, and Jack Gubrud, Jacob Slough and Riley Slough; great nieces Kelsey (Eric) Hoff, Allyson (Brandon) Rust, Jessica Dufour, Mackinzie (Travis) Greenwaldt and Haley Slough; great, great nieces, Evelyn Greenwaldt and Nora Rust.

Tom as preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Dougherty, his fraternal and maternal grandparents, brother-in law, Jerry Slough and both wives, Susie and Lois.

A memorial Celebration of Life was held on January 9, 2019 at DeGusipe Funeral Home in Maitland, Florida. For his service to the country he loved he will have the honor of being interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County Virginia.
