Richard C. Gravelle

Richard C. Gravelle, 72, of Bemidji, MN died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Neilson Place, Bemidji.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring with inurnment in the Hines Cemetery.

Richard was born November 27, 1944 in Brainerd, MN to Clifford and Margaret (Janzen) Gravelle. He was raised and went to school in Aitkin, MN. He graduated from nursing school in Sioux Falls, SD in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at El Paso, TX and South Vietnam. In 1968 he entered St. Lukes Hospital School of Anesthesia in Aberdeen, SD. He moved to Bemidji in 1970 and worked there until his retirement in 2008. In 1965 he married Wanda Jerzak in Wilno, MN. They later divorced and then married Lola Weaver in 1991 in Bemidji. Dick loved the outdoors as well as fishing and gardening and enjoyed sharing his garden products and catch of fish with friends and family. After retirement, Dick and Lola spent their winters in Yuma, AZ where he was active in running their homeowners association. He served as president of the Rio Colorado Homeowners Assoc. from 2013 until January 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Lola of Bemidji and Yuma, AZ and three children, Dawn Peterson of Bemidji, Vicki Gravelle of Coon Rapids and Mark (Michelle) of Remer; three stepchildren, Saunda St. Martin of Bemidji, Tracey of Buffalo, WY and Linc (Debra) of Sheridan, WY; two brothers, Thomas (Shirley) of Aitkin and Michael (Connie) Of Pueblo, CO; three grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Judy Gravelle of Remer, Dixie (John) Stirwaldt of Perham and Connie (Dan) Walsh of Butte, MT and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Dennis.

Family prefers memorials to the ALS Association.
