VOLLEYBALL: Beavers drop NSIC opener to Duluth

DULUTH -- The Bemidji State volleyball team fell in its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest Thursday falling to No. 6 Minnesota Duluth 3-0.

The Beavers (3-6, 0-1 NSIC) conceded the first match 25-19 before falling in the second and third by the same score of 25-14.

Anna Averkamp was the lone BSU player to reach double digit kills with 10, while Mary Campbell put up 20 assists.

Emma Hallmann led the defense with 12 digs, and Maddie Filipiak had a team-high six blocks.

For the Bulldogs (7-2, 1-0 NSIC), Sarah Kelly knocked down 12 kills, while Abby Thor and Hanna Meyer each had seven. Emily Torve had 39 of the team’s 45 assists.

On defense, Keena Seiffert and Kate Berg picked up 16 digs, and Makenzie Morgen had 12.

The Beavers open their home schedule at 1 p.m. Saturday, hosting St. Cloud State for the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer game at the BSU Gymnasium.
