Roller derby team hosts Bemidji bout on Saturday
BEMIDJI—Local roller derby team Babe City Rollers will hold its first home bout of the season Saturday.
BCR will take on the Roller Underground Dirty Ores, a team based in the Iron Range.
Roller derby is a women's contact sport, during which two five-person teams roller skate clockwise around the track. A designated "jammer" attempts to score points by passing members of the opposing team.
Saturday's bout—held at the Bemidji Curling Club—will include the music of DJ Divewire of Bemidji, as well as a bar and drink menu.
Tickets will be available at the door for cash or check only: $8 for ages 13 and OLDER; $5 for ages 6-12, and free for children age 5 and younger. Attendees can bring their own chair for a chance to win BCR merchandise at halftime.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the bout is set to begin at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 14.
